Lead by Myra Avedon and Erik Bendix January 12th – 13th, 2019 in Munich, Germany
Our first learning as babies came through touch and movement, experienced in every cell. As we grew, other senses began to wake up: taste and smell and eventually hearing and vision, each new sense informing us from further out into our environment. Our senses develop in response to stimulation in a dance between protecting ourselves and becoming curious and willing to explore. With every sense we can consciously or unconsciously filter or block stimulus, or allow what is experienced to be perceived and/or recorded in our memory or learning.
We filter our experience and choose what to pay attention to, basing our choices on what we have learned to expect from past experience. These choices shape our understanding and behaviour, creating personal realities within a larger global reality. One way to reshape our behaviour is by taking in new information. If information comes in through a more basic sense like touch or movement, it can often be learned in a deeper way. The cycles of stimulation, interpretation and response create who we are and how we are able to learn and grow. Change of habit can be initiated anywhere in our cycles: with new information, new understanding or new action.
This workshop further deepens our dialogue between Body-Mind Centering® and the Alexander Technique. In it, we will touch on the anatomy of each sense, visit our many options to change habitual cycles of experience, and learn to respect our defences while opening up to all there is to learn. We invite you to join us in building individual safety while daring to explore together.
We would enjoy having you with us !
